Philodendron

This genus includes over a thousand different varieties of plants, ranging from trailing to upright to vining to bushy. Philodendrons are well known to be wonderful, easy-going plants with many different colors and variegations. Most sprout new leaves in one color, then mature to a different color, hailing certain names like Prince of Orange, Rojo Congo, or Moonlight.

Trailing varieties are some of the best of its kind, always growing even in the lowest of lights. Brasil, Cordatum, Mican, and Lemon Lime are a few options for endless hanging baskets.

Most philodendrons prefer bright, indirect light, as well as drying out 40-50% before a good soaking. Some versions can tolerate lower light, such as Brasil, Cordatum, Moonlight, and ones with darker foliage.

Nowadays, more Philodendrons are being cultivated with high variegation, such as Pink Princess and White Princess. These guys typically require more light than normal, and have a hard time tolerating lower light conditions.

Overall, Philodendrons are the most popular and sought houseplants. They add color and beauty to all points of a home, and bring excitement when a new leaf begins to unfurl. They are best kept away from pets.
